Lighting in Memorial: what these houses actually want
Memorial is defined by its trees. Mature pines and oaks on large, wooded lots mean the roofline is often only partly visible from the street, and a plan drawn from a photo of the front elevation can miss that entirely. What works here is usually a balanced roofline run plus selective tree work, so the house and the canopy read as one picture instead of a bright roof floating over a dark yard.
On a deep Memorial lot the approach matters as much as the elevation. We look at what is actually visible from the road before recommending a scope.
Several Memorial neighbourhoods run their own guidelines. Send yours with the inquiry.
Why a roofer should be the one on your roof
Most light installers are not roofers. We are — we replace roofs on Memorial’s wooded lots through the year.
That matters in three practical ways. First, attachment: seasonal roofline lights go on with clips chosen to suit the surface, not with fasteners driven through your shingles. Nothing is nailed, screwed or stapled into the roof. Second, assessment: we look at the shingles, the gutters and the fascia before we install anything, because we know what a roof in trouble looks like and we would rather find it in October than have you find it in a January leak. Third, access: two-storey and steep-slope work is what we do the rest of the year, and we are licensed and insured for it.
If we see something on your roof that concerns us while we are up there, we will tell you. There is no charge for that, and no obligation attached to it.
Lighting ideas for your Memorial home
For a home set back from the street, start with the main eaves and rakes, then consider selected tree wraps and a clear approach. Ridges, windows and greenery can be added to suit the architecture.
Full-service holiday lighting, or a year-round outline
Our holiday service includes design, installation, in-season maintenance and takedown. Storage is included for leased lights; owners store their purchased lights. Choose your features and let us recommend a design, then approve a written scope and quote.
Explore holiday lighting or discuss permanent roofline lighting. Permanent lighting is quoted separately with its own hardware and service arrangements.
Planning access and timing
Overhanging branches, shaded gutters and long roof runs affect access. We assess the actual property before confirming the installation plan.
If you have community guidelines, share them with your inquiry. We review applicable requirements for your project; we do not assume every home has the same rules.
What a package includes
Every seasonal package, whichever scope and whichever ownership you choose, includes the design consult and on-site measure, commercial-grade C9 bulbs and wire, lights custom-cut to your rooflines, professional installation on safe roof clips, service visits through the season, and January takedown. Holiday lighting packages start at $750, quoted as one lump sum after we have measured — never over the phone.
There are three scopes:
- Roofline — the main run: eaves and rakes, and the gutter line where it suits the house. The classic, and the right starting point for most homes.
- Roofline + Trees & Bushes — the roofline plus trunk wraps, canopy work and shrub and bed lighting, so the house sits in the light rather than floating above a dark yard.
- Full Estate — the whole elevation: roof, landscape, entry and approach, with the accents chosen alongside your designer.
Ridges and hips are an add-on, not part of the base roofline scope. We say that plainly because it is the single most common thing left out of a cheaper comparison quote. Window outlines, wreaths and garland, columns and porch, and walkway and driveway lighting are optional and separately quoted too — on a Full Estate plan they are included only when they are listed in your written quote.
You can lease the lights from us or buy them outright. Leased lights are stored by us between seasons and carry a lifetime warranty for as long as they are on your house; lights you own are stored by you and carry a 5-year warranty. Both terms cover the lights and the bulbs themselves — the product — not a workmanship warranty on the installation.

Questions, answered
Common questions
My Memorial house is behind trees. Is roofline lighting worth it?
Often, yes — but rarely on its own. On a wooded Memorial lot we usually pair the roofline with selective tree lighting so the display reads from the road, not just from the driveway.
Do you light mature trees?
Yes. Trunk wraps and canopy work are part of the Roofline + Trees & Bushes scope and above.
Will the install damage my roof under all that shade?
No. We use clips rather than fasteners driven through the roof surface, and we assess the shingles, gutters and fascia before we start.
How early should a Memorial home book?
Early. Larger lots take longer to install, so they fill the calendar sooner.
