Check your address for storm history
Enter your address and we'll show you every hail and damaging-wind report NOAA recorded near it since 2019. Knowing the date a storm hit your roof is the single most useful fact in an insurance claim — and this costs you nothing.
Source: NOAA / NCEI Storm Events Database — reports filed by trained spotters, officials and the public. These are reports, not radar coverage: if nothing shows up near you it means nobody filed a report there, not that no hail fell. The only way to know what your roof actually took is to look at it.
Before the storm
The pre-season roof checklist
Most hurricane roof damage starts at a weakness the storm didn't create — it just found it. Five things to do while the Gulf is quiet:
- 01
Get the roof inspected before the Gulf wakes up
Lost seals, lifted shingles, and aging pipe boots are what wind exploits. A free pre-season inspection finds them while the fix is small — and gives you dated photos of your roof in good condition, which is exactly the "before" evidence a storm claim needs.
- 02
Photograph your roof and attic now
Walk the property and shoot every slope from the ground, plus the attic. Ten minutes of phone photos today removes the single biggest argument insurers make later: "that damage was already there."
- 03
Clear gutters, valleys, and overhanging limbs
Clogged valleys hold wind-driven rain against the roof, and the limb hanging over your bedroom is the most predictable storm damage there is. Trim it on your schedule, not the storm’s.
- 04
Read your deductible BEFORE you need it
Many Texas policies carry a separate wind/hail or named-storm deductible — often a percentage of your dwelling coverage, not a flat dollar amount. Find it on your declarations page now so the number isn’t a surprise mid-claim.
- 05
Know who you’ll call
After a major storm, every roofer’s phone rings at once and out-of-town crews flood in. Having a local, certified roofer picked in advance means you’re calling someone accountable to this market — save (346) 276-6492 now.
The pre-season inspection is free and no-pressure — book it here or call (346) 276-6492.
After the storm
The first 72 hours
What you do in the first three days decides how the next three months go — for your home and your claim.
- 01
First: people, then power, then property
Stay clear of downed lines and damaged structures. The roof can wait an hour; safety can’t.
- 02
Document before you touch anything
Photograph everything from the ground and inside the attic — damage, debris, water intrusion, the works. Do not let anyone "clean up" before it’s documented; that evidence is your claim.
- 03
Stop further damage (your policy expects it)
Texas policies require reasonable steps to prevent the damage from getting worse. Emergency tarping counts, is typically reimbursable on a covered claim, and is exactly what our emergency response does — documentation included.
- 04
Be careful who you sign with
After every Houston storm, door-knockers appear with contracts on clipboards. Never sign anything same-day, never sign over your claim, and know that a contractor offering to "cover your deductible" is describing something illegal in Texas. A real local roofer will still be here next year.
- 05
File with evidence in hand
A documented inspection before you file gives the claim an accurate starting point. We inspect free, organize the photo record, and stand with you through the adjuster meeting and scope review.

Questions, answered
Storm season questions
When is hurricane season in Houston?
Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with the Texas coast historically most active from August through early October. The time to prepare a roof is before the Gulf gets busy — June, not August.
Should I get my roof inspected before hurricane season?
Yes — it’s the highest-value free thing you can do. An inspection catches the lifted shingles, lost seals, and aging penetrations that wind exploits, and it creates dated photo evidence of your roof’s pre-storm condition, which strengthens any claim you file later. Ours are free and no-pressure.
What do I do first if a hurricane damages my roof?
Safety first, then photograph everything before any cleanup, then stop further damage — emergency tarping is typically part of a covered claim because your policy expects you to mitigate. Then file with documentation in hand. Our step-by-step Texas claim guide covers the whole sequence.
Will insurance cover hurricane roof damage in Texas?
Wind damage is a commonly covered peril on Texas homeowners policies, but many policies apply a separate, higher wind/hail or named-storm deductible — often a percentage of your dwelling coverage. Coverage is always your insurer’s decision; thorough documentation is what gives a legitimate claim its best shot, and that’s the part we specialize in.
Is this a hurricane tracker?
For live storm tracking, use the official sources — the National Hurricane Center and the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston office (both linked below; our live strip above pulls from the same NOAA data). What this page adds is the part they don’t cover: what a Houston roof needs before a storm and exactly what to do after one.
Official sources for live tracking: National Hurricane Center · NWS Houston/Galveston · Ready Harris. Weather data on this page is public-domain NOAA data, refreshed every few minutes.
