Who roofs homes in Montrose, Houston?

Handyhands is a family-owned, GAF Certified roofing contractor working across Montrose, from 1920s bungalows under a heavy tree canopy to modern three-story townhomes. We handle full replacement, honest repair, and storm and hail insurance claims, installing the complete GAF Timberline HDZ system with a 10-year workmanship warranty.

Montrose might be the most architecturally varied square mile in Houston. A single block can hold a 1920s bungalow, a mid-century duplex, and a three-story townhome built last year — and each of those roofs ages differently, fails differently, and needs a different answer. That's the work we do in Montrose: honest repair, full-system replacement, and storm-damage claims, all backed by a 10-year workmanship warranty.

Old bungalows, steep gables, and a heavy canopy

Montrose's older homes were built with steep, simple gable roofs — good bones, but most have been re-roofed several times over the decades, and it's common to find shortcuts hiding under the current shingle: layered-over roofs, decking that was never replaced, flashing reused one time too many. The neighborhood's mature live oaks make it harder: constant shade holds moisture on north slopes, and dropped limbs and leaf dams accelerate wear at the valleys.

When we replace a Montrose roof, we take it to the deck, replace what's tired, and rebuild the system in layers — underlayment, sealed valleys, new flashing, balanced ventilation. On a house that's ninety years old, the details are the whole job.

Townhomes and shared-wall roofing

The other half of Montrose is new: tall, narrow townhomes with complex rooflines, parapet walls, and low-slope sections that shingles can't protect. Those roofs fail at the transitions — where a steep plane meets a flat one, where a wall meets a roof deck. We install the right membrane system on the low-slope sections and integrate the flashing properly at every transition, which is exactly where a builder-grade install tends to leak first.

Flat or low-slope section on your Montrose townhome? That's a different system, not a different shingle — and we install it right.

Storms inside the Loop

Montrose takes the same Gulf wind and spring hail as the rest of Houston — and on an older roof, a storm often just finishes what age started. We inspect honestly, document what we find the way an adjuster needs to see it, and if there's a legitimate claim we stand with you through the process. If it's simply an old roof, we'll say that too.

A straight answer on your Montrose roof

Whether it's a bungalow that's been patched one time too many or a townhome with a stubborn leak at the flat section, the next step is a real inspection from a roofer who works on both.

Questions, answered

Common questions

My Montrose bungalow has been re-roofed before — does that matter?

Yes. Texas allows up to two layers of shingles, but layered roofs hide the deck's condition and shorten the new roof's life. If your bungalow already has more than one layer, replacement means a full tear-off — which is what we recommend anyway, because it's the only way to see and fix what's underneath.

Do you handle the flat sections on Montrose townhomes?

Yes. Low-slope sections need a membrane-based system, not shingles — and the leak-prone spot is almost always the transition where flat meets steep. We install the right system for the slope and integrate the flashing at the transitions properly.

Can trees really damage a roof?

Over time, yes. Constant shade holds moisture, debris dams up the valleys, and abrasion from overhanging limbs wears the granules. We see all three under Montrose's canopy — a free inspection will tell you whether it's cosmetic or costing you roof life.

A storm came through — do I have a claim on an older roof?

Possibly. Wind and hail are often covered perils on a Texas homeowners policy regardless of the roof's age, though older roofs can settle at actual-cash-value. We document the damage honestly, and the coverage decision is always your insurer's.
