Lighting in Montrose: what these houses actually want

Montrose puts 1920s bungalows under a heavy tree canopy next door to modern three-storey townhomes, sometimes on the same block. A bungalow has a low porch roof and a deep front overhang that lights beautifully and reads from the sidewalk. A three-storey townhome has almost no eave to work with and usually wants window outlines and entry work instead.

Montrose is a walking neighbourhood, so displays here are read from the sidewalk at close range rather than from a car. Detail matters more than reach.

Townhome communities in Montrose often have their own rules. Send them with your inquiry.

Why a roofer should be the one on your roof

Most light installers are not roofers. We are — we replace roofs on Montrose bungalows and townhomes through the year.

That matters in three practical ways. First, attachment: seasonal roofline lights go on with clips chosen to suit the surface, not with fasteners driven through your shingles. Nothing is nailed, screwed or stapled into the roof. Second, assessment: we look at the shingles, the gutters and the fascia before we install anything, because we know what a roof in trouble looks like and we would rather find it in October than have you find it in a January leak. Third, access: two-storey and steep-slope work is what we do the rest of the year, and we are licensed and insured for it.

If we see something on your roof that concerns us while we are up there, we will tell you. There is no charge for that, and no obligation attached to it.

Lighting ideas for your Montrose home

Start with the visible roofline, then choose the trees, windows or entry details you want to highlight. We help balance the display around your home and preferences.

Full-service holiday lighting, or a year-round outline

Our holiday service includes design, installation, in-season maintenance and takedown. Storage is included for leased lights; owners store their purchased lights. Choose your features and let us recommend a design, then approve a written scope and quote.

Explore holiday lighting or discuss permanent roofline lighting. Permanent lighting is quoted separately with its own hardware and service arrangements.

Planning access and timing

Roof height, landscaping, attachment surfaces and power affect the plan. We confirm these details at your property.

If you have community guidelines, share them with your inquiry. We review applicable requirements for your project; we do not assume every home has the same rules.

What a package includes

Every seasonal package, whichever scope and whichever ownership you choose, includes the design consult and on-site measure, commercial-grade C9 bulbs and wire, lights custom-cut to your rooflines, professional installation on safe roof clips, service visits through the season, and January takedown. Holiday lighting packages start at $750, quoted as one lump sum after we have measured — never over the phone.

There are three scopes:

  • Roofline — the main run: eaves and rakes, and the gutter line where it suits the house. The classic, and the right starting point for most homes.
  • Roofline + Trees & Bushes — the roofline plus trunk wraps, canopy work and shrub and bed lighting, so the house sits in the light rather than floating above a dark yard.
  • Full Estate — the whole elevation: roof, landscape, entry and approach, with the accents chosen alongside your designer.

Ridges and hips are an add-on, not part of the base roofline scope. We say that plainly because it is the single most common thing left out of a cheaper comparison quote. Window outlines, wreaths and garland, columns and porch, and walkway and driveway lighting are optional and separately quoted too — on a Full Estate plan they are included only when they are listed in your written quote.

You can lease the lights from us or buy them outright. Leased lights are stored by us between seasons and carry a lifetime warranty for as long as they are on your house; lights you own are stored by you and carry a 5-year warranty. Both terms cover the lights and the bulbs themselves — the product — not a workmanship warranty on the installation.

Questions, answered

Common questions

Can you light a Montrose bungalow's porch?

Yes — the porch roof and the deep front overhang are usually the best features on a bungalow, and they read well from the sidewalk.

What about a three-storey townhome with no real eaves?

Those usually want window outlines and entry accents rather than a roofline run. Both are quoted separately from the base scope.

Do you light under a heavy tree canopy?

Yes, and we often add selective tree work so the canopy is part of the picture rather than a dark ceiling over it.

Do you work with townhome community rules?

We design to whatever guidelines you send us with your inquiry.
